Today is the day! I am sitting here at the airport waiting to board. I’m so nervous! I have never flown alone before so this flight from Norfolk to JFK is going to be a treat.
Sitting here i am just feeling so blessed that VWC selected me to represent them, I mean I wasn’t even going to apply because I didn’t think I would get it! Crazy to think about. I know everyone keeps saying how proud they are of me but i just really hope I am expressing how grateful I am for their support. I have raised over 1700 for this trip and that would have never been possible without all the family and friends supporting me and my passion.
Coming into VWC i would never have guessed i would 1) go greek – Sigma is my home. Yes, my sisters are crazy and sometimes we don’t understand each other but they stepped up when it came to CofS. They supported the cause to give women rights and an education all around the world. And 2) I never thought i would not only represent the Greek community but i would represent the Vwc community on a Trek to Africa. I am praying I make them proud. I cant wait to meet everyone!!!
This photo has all the girls that went on the Trek:
Today is the day! I am so excited for everything that is to come this week! Sitting here at the airport I am counting my blessing. I have gotten so many text, tweets and Facebook post wishing me luck and prayers for my journey. I can not wait to fill you all in when I get back but until then keep me and the 14 other women in your thoughts and prayers!
Today we got an update on were we will be staying when we are in Senegal! On the map there is an A and that is the location. We found out that there is already another school that has 170 students that attend it. The school goes from first to third grade. This is school is also not really done. The school was mostly paid for by the government and the contractors got away with the money before finishing the school.
It is crazy to think that there are people out there that are just in it for the money. And even with everything that has the villagers are ready to embrace us with open arms because the school will be done in 12 weeks once we start it. This is amazing. Again I say I am so blessed to be apart of the Trek and I can’t wait to see what is in store of me once I get on that plane in a few days.
Today I received a new Circle of Sisterhood shirt and a journal that was made just for everyone on the Trek. I am feeling more and more blessed every time i think about everything that needed to come together to make this trip possible for me. I can not wait to fly out on Tuesday and to write all the amazing memories and stories in my new journal.
